Master Molded Products is excited
to announce the combination of a durable membrane switch with an
integrally-injection-molded thermoplastic case.
The In-Molded Switch™ is new technology
that Master Molded Products Corporation has developed and
patented, where a membrane switch, including the graphic layer, is
molded directly into an injection-molded panel, case, or frame. This
panel/case concept is specifically designed for each customer
application and will often replace other components of the assembly.
Master Molded Products Corporation
has been awarded Patent #5,574,623 for this Molded Switch technology.
No Gaps No Seams
The In-Molded Switch is completely encased in an injection molded
enclosure made of either ABS, Rynite®, Ryton®, Lexan® or other
thermoplastic materials. Because there are no gaps or seams in the
construction, contaminants cannot collect and the switch surface and
enclosure can be wiped clean. This can be especially important in the
appliance, medical and automotive industries.
Other switch assemblies using a bezel or
an adhesive backed membrane switch mounted on a backer have potential
contamination problems because of seams and cracks along edges. The
"wipe-clean" feature of the In-Molded switch is ideal for medical
applications, cosmetic applications requiring continual cleaning or
other environments where the switch assembly comes in regular contact
with harsh chemicals.
Manufacturability
The In-Molded Switch has many advantages in manufacturing. Often,
the injection molded casing will replace a separate plastic enclosure or
metal backer. With components mounted on the back of the membrane
switch, a pc board and/or LED may also be combined with the assembly.
Having only one supplier coordinate the
construction of this one-piece unit, from start to finish, eliminates the
complicated scheduling problems associated with using multiple vendors.
For applications with a rough environment,
this switch assembly has it all.
